From Jordan Belfort to Donald Trump, and even El Chapo, the referencing and veneration of non-musical figures in rap has been the subject of many records over the decade. On several occasions, hip-hop artists have pulled inspiration from successful businessmen in real estate, film, and the like to make analogies of just how successful or fly they are themselves. One of the top rappers of today, A$AP Rocky, decided to whip up a song dedicated to friend and inspiration, legendary Belgian fashion designer, Raf Simons. He began by typing a very amped up tweet on how he feels about Simons’s impact on the fashion game, and how many copycats he’s spawned.
RAF IS OUR FASHION GOD , THE WHOLE GAME BITES HIM , I BARELY WEAR OFF WHITE BUT I FEEL BAD FOR VIRGIL , I HOPE THIS INSPIRES HIM 2 TURN UP!— LORD FLACKO JODYE II (@asvpxrocky) January 27, 2017
We then get a video of Rocky wildin’ out in the studio to an apparently unreleased tune he’s been working on. By the look of the hashtag, the start of the video, and the hook of the song, the new track will probably be titled “Please Don’t Touch My Raf.” Additionally, it sounds like the guy Rocky is talking to at the beginning of the vid is fellow A$AP Mob member, A$AP Ferg, who is also quite the fashion enthusiast himself. Certainly a match made in heaven for a song dedicated to a designer icon. By the sounds of it, we think we’re going to love this fashion-focused banger when it drops, but check it out for yourself in the video below.
